On the lights

Bradley was born with excess bilirubin, a condition known as jaundice.   Ian and Colton also had jaundice when they were born, but just not as bad as Bradley had it. The doctor ordered him to be put on lights so they brought in this little light box that has this thin sheet on it.  The sheet has sleeves for his arms and we just would slip him right in with no clothes on (so the light would hit his back) and then we laid a blanket on top.

Damon says he looked like a little alien child on the light bed.

It was seriously so hard for me to do this. Taking off all of his clothes in the cold month of December and leaving only a blanket on him seemed cruel, but Bradley didn't seem to mind too much. One night he seemed to be having a really hard time sleeping so I turned off the light and got him dressed, wrapped him up, and he then slept for 5 hours straight.  So he really was cold that time.

  1. That does seem like it would be cold. Good thing Jandice is not very hard to treat though. He looks pretty happy in these pictures. What a cute baby!

  2. my "little" brother had to do that, too. except he was in a container at home. kind of like what you'd see in the NICU. and he was full on naked. i remember looking at him in there crying and wondering why he was in there. i was 6. :)

    he's so cute, clair!
